Using a Self Erecting Tower Crane in Windy Conditions
- Before operating the crane familiarise yourself with the crane manual and the section referring to wind conditions.
- Always check that the anemometer and warning light are all working properly before operation of the crane.
- Maximum wind speed refers to gusting winds and wind gusts will be higher than the mean wind speed.
- Care should be exercised when lifting loads of large surface areas and the permissible wind speed to operate will be reduced significantly.
- Regardless of wind speed the operator should cease operations of the crane if he believes he is not in control of load being lifted.
- Care should be exercised when approaching the crane in windy conditions especially when the slew brake is released.
