• Know your lifting requirements
What will your maximum lifting requirements be? Check that the lift capacity and reach of the crane match your specifications. Consider your current needs but also look to the future when your lifting requirements may increase.
• Consider the age of the crane
How old is the crane? Older cranes may offer better value but, unless professionally maintained, can come with excessive wear and tear leading to increased downtime and high repair costs for the new owner.
• Check out the maintenance history
To keep a crane in prime working order it must be regularly serviced and all necessary repairs must be completed. Is there a service history with the used crane you are considering? Will the manufacturer or crane hire company continue to service the crane for you?
• Has the crane been refurbished?
Refurbishing a crane will give machinery a new lease of life and ensure many more years of reliable service. An older crane that has been professionally refurbished and upgraded with modern components will ensure reliable and efficient performance.
• How will the crane be transported and erected?
Will the seller deliver and install & dismantle the used crane? The crane must be safely transported and properly installed to avoid accidents or potential damage.
• Is there good after-sales support?
Will the seller provide access to their expert knowledge to address technical issues and breakdowns? Do they keep supplies of spare parts to keep the crane operational into the future?
