What is a Tower Crane Hook Camera?
A tower crane hook camera is a specialised camera, mounted onto the crane hook, that provides the operator with an unobstructed view of the load and lifting area. The camera ensures the safe and efficient handling of heavy loads as the operator can see and hear the load and surroundings. This system is beneficial on tower cranes, where the cab is located high above the site making it difficult to see the load being lifted and landed.
How does a crane hook camera work?
The camera is securely fixed to the crane hook and positioned to capture the best view of the load and its surroundings. The live video feed from the hook cam is transmitted wirelessly to a receiver in the crane cab. Live feed is viewed on a monitor, giving the operator an unobstructed view of the load. Some hook cameras can be adjusted remotely to allow the operator to get the best view possible.
Benefits of a Hook Camera
Reduces Hazards
Prevent accidents and reduce the need for verbal warnings of potential hazards as the crane operator has an unobstructed view of the ground and surroundings.
Improves Communication
Allow the crane operator and the banksman to synchronise their actions as they can see exactly what the other sees.
Reduces Impacts and Collisions
Minimise damage to the load and surrounding areas, by using a hook cam to help with precise load lifting and laying.
Improves Lifting Times
Improve lifting and laying times by providing the operator with a clear view of the load and letting him see exactly where it is positioned and where it is to be moved to.
A tower crane hook camera, like the BlokCam is an invaluable addition to modern crane systems, eliminating blind lifts and improving safety and efficiency. As construction sites become more congested and contractors strive to meet tight deadlines, a hook camera will help lift speed and accuracy and contribute to overall time and safety efficiencies.
