The ideal location for a crane on the construction site is a balance between access, functionality, safety, and efficiency. To maximise the efficiency of the crane, it should be placed in an optimal position to allow it to service as much of the site as possible. Architects maintain a vision of the creative design of the build and “dream in blueprints.” Builders work out the practicalities of these designs and “build in bricks and mortar.” But often what looks good on the plans can present problems for the builder. Installing the crane before construction starts can be straightforward. However, as the building rises around the crane, dismantling and extracting it becomes difficult. The solution: rise above it.

Is the site clear of all obstacles?
Are ground conditions suitable to support the crane

❇️ Lift Planning

Is there a detailed Lift Plan that considers the crane size, weight, and the intended position to place the crane? Are all obstacles considered?

❇️ Safety Issues

Are all safety issues considered? Is the work area secured? Is everyone wearing PPE? Are all Health and Safety protocols being adhered to?

❇️ Position of the crane

Is the self-erecting tower crane in a suitable position for the lift?
Is the ground level and stable?

❇️ Rigging and attachments

Is the crane rigged and are the attachments in place?

❇️ Communication

Are the mobile crane operator and the banksman in communication with each other?

❇️ Lifting sequence

Is the crane being lifted in a controlled and safe manner?
Is the mobile crane driver alert to load dynamics and avoiding sudden movements?

❇️ Monitoring

Is the mobile crane driver, banksman and other crew monitoring the lift? Are they prepared to adjust throughout the lift?

❇️ Positioning

Is the crane being carefully lowered into the designated position?

❇️ Post Lift Inspection

Is the self erector inspected following the lift? Is damage identified and repaired?

❇️Documentation

Have details of the lift plan, safety measures and adjustments during the lift been documented?
