Mantis Cranes currently have two Self Erecting Tower Cranes on working on the new Munster Rugby Training Centre at the University of Limerick.
The cranes were placed on site in 2015 and the project is due for completion in July 2016. The new training centre, located adjacent to the UL Arena on the University of Limerick campus, includes weights rooms, medical and physiotherapy treatment rooms, offices, audio visual suites, meeting rooms and a 50-seater lecture theatre.
We placed a two Potain Pedestrian Operated Tower Cranes on site in October and they are expected to be in place for a total hire period of 40 weeks.
The new building will also house a swimming pool (25m x10m) with a diving facility and some office facilities. Additionally the building will be home to the Greencore Munster Academy and North Munster Domestic game operations. The cost is the project is estimated at €9.5m. The building will be two storeys high and cover an area of 4432m².
These Self Erecting Tower Cranes were placed on site so as to cover as much of the working area available to the builder as possible. By doing this the working materials can be delivered directly to the point where they are needed, increasing efficiency and improving safety on site. Using Pedestrian Operated Tower Cranes, rather than an alternative material handling solution like telehandlers or mobile cranes, is perfect for a university campus environment due to the reduced vehicular movements while work is ongoing.
