In September Mantis Cranes placed a Pedestrian Operated Tower Crane on the Titanic Boutique Hotel Project in Belfast.
The development, originally proposed in 2014, is located at the former drawing offices of Harland and Wolff, the company that built The Titanic. The current structure, a B+ listed preserved building, was once the control centre for the largest shipyard in the world. Harland and Wolff vacated the offices in 1989 and they have remained unoccupied since that time. A number of tours and ‘pop-up events’ were hosted in the building until it was finally closed in 2015.
The current project is the latest part of the development which is hoped to preserve the site and its future. Titanic Quarter Limited, the management company for the building, plan to have open an 84-bedroom boutique hotel as the “world’s most authentic Titanic-themed hotel”.
Completion of the project is planned for 2017 and, upon opening, it will create approximately 100 jobs at the hotel site. There are also plans to include guided tours and other tourist facilities of the tourist attraction, which is adjacent to the current Titanic Belfast visitor centre.
Mantis Cranes placed a Potain IGO50 Pedestrian Operated Tower Crane on the site in September. There is a planned tower crane rental period of eight weeks. The Potain IGO50 provides a jib length of 40m with a load capacity of 1,000kg at the jib end. There is standard a height under hook of 23.2m, though the crane will be luffed to 8 degrees giving a height under hook of 26.2m for our client.
