Landmark Investment in Sustainable Aquaculture
Cooke Scotland has marked a major milestone in sustainable aquaculture with the launch of a state-of-the-art Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) facility at its salmon hatchery in Cairndow, Argyll.
The new facility, constructed by D. A. MacDonald (Contractors) Ltd, represents the largest single capital investment Cooke Scotland has ever commissioned, a bold statement of intent when it comes to fish welfare, environmental responsibility, and long-term business growth.
Using a closed-loop system that continuously filters and recycles water, the RAS dramatically reduces freshwater consumption compared to traditional flow-through methods. This will result in healthier, more robust smolts produced with a significantly lower environmental footprint, setting a new benchmark for freshwater aquaculture in Scotland.

Bringing such an ambitious project to life in a remote Highland location required the right equipment for the job.
