When Mantis Cranes set out to design and manufacture a self erecting tower crane, the vision was clear: build a crane that provided power, reach and reliability on the smallest footprint possible.
The Mantis Cranes entry level self erector, the TC25, is unique to Mantis Cranes. This crane features a 25m jib and a 19m height under hook. It can provide a maximum capacity of 2,000kg from the tower out as far as 10.8m on the jib and 750kg at the end of the jib.
This pedestrian operated tower crane is the smallest Self Erecting Crane in our crane hire fleet. It features a fully self-contained unit with an on-board generator and permanent ballast. The compact design of the Mantis TC25, makes it ideal for construction projects where space is restricted as it can easily be maneuvered onto almost every site due to its permanent axle.
Introduced at the SED trade show in the UK in 2008, this crane is the result of a collaboration between Mantis Cranes and Ulster University. The crane was inspired by the requirements of contractors working on restricted sites, the growing demand for timber and steel framed houses and projects of shorter duration. Designed with an emphasis on optimising mobility and ease of erection, the crane is ideal for timber frame and light steel frame projects where customers need to relocate the crane around the site with minimal effort.
A collaboration between The Engineering Department at Ulster University, Jordanstown and Mantis Cranes was instrumental in developing the TC25. This partnership enabled Mantis Cranes to leverage its insights gained from construction sites to design a crane that optimises its use on-site. Combining the industry know how gathered by Mantis with the academic expertise of the Engineering Department, resulted in a crane that solved the real-world challenges facing contractors on construction sites.
Fast forward to 2025, and the versatile TC25 is still part of the Mantis Cranes fleet—although contractors now require cranes with even more lifting power and reach. Mantis recently had a full-circle moment with a chance meeting with Richard McGraw, who was part of the original team that worked on the TC25 project in Jordanstown. On a visit to the Mantis Cranes workshops, where he saw how far the company has evolved and got an insight into what lies ahead, it was a fitting throwback to have a connection back to the start of the Mantis journey.

A tower crane rising above a site tends to draw every eye, but the real story starts long before it arrives on site. It's this quiet groundwork that sets the stage for everything that follows.
Tower cranes are one of the most efficient lifting solutions available on construction sites, offering exceptional height, reach, and lifting capacity that few other machines can match. Unlike mobile cranes, they occupy a small footprint while still serving the entire site, making them ideal for congested urban locations.
