mantis cranes celebrates international women's day

International Women’s Day 2023

International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of all women and is being celebrated on March 8th 2023. Mantis Cranes and McMenamin Engineering are delighted to celebrate all the women that work in our Donegal and UK bases.

Women in Construction

Traditionally, women have been underrepresented in the Construction Industry, but we are pleased to see this trend beginning to change. Industry-wide and Government initiatives are seeking to attract women into apprenticeships, increase awareness of careers in Construction for women and promote gender equality in the workplace.

In 2022 we celebrated Kate Fahey’s achievement of becoming Ireland’s first female licensed crane operator at just 18! We met Kate when she was operating a Saez TLS 60 14 tower crane from Mantis Cranes on a tight site in Dublin, and making it look easy!

For International Women’s Day 2023, we are proud to feature Fay Briggs, Operations Manager, Mantis Cranes UK.

“I have been part of the construction industry for over 20 years, I fell into this industry almost by accident, firstly in powered access before progressing into crane hire.

Thinking about women within our industry, there are not enough. It’s tough, and that hasn’t changed in 20 years but if you show true grit and determination, and play the right game, you’ll win in the end.

To succeed you need to be part of a great team, the construction world is full of them, it needs to be. I am fortunate enough to be in a position to create a great team of my own. Within that, I want to lead by example, I want everyone to empower each other and ultimately have some fun along the way.

If you are considering a career in the construction industry, my advice is to go for it! Be resilient as it’s not for the faint of heart but it’s a wonderfully rewarding industry to be part of.”
