Premier Inn York
Visitors to the beautiful city of York will soon have their choice of Premier Inn hotels to stay at, with the addition of a 6th hotel close to the city’s ancient walls, between Layerthorpe and Foss Islands Road. The new hotel is designed to blend well into this historic area in York, featuring 2 different brick finishes to ensure it sits seamlessly into its surroundings.
Highly Sustainable Development
Designed with sustainability in mind, this timber-framed hotel will have an air-source heat pump, heat recovery ventilation system, LED lighting, photovoltaic panels, and electric car charging points. The 4-storey, 188-bedroom hotel aims to have an impressive 44% carbon reduction compared to alternative construction methods. The hotel is due to be completed towards the end of 2023.
Timber Frame Progress
The £16m development of a highly sustainable Premier Inn is progressing well with the timber frame starting to go up this month. The Mantis Cranes engineers were back on site in York this week servicing the two self-erecting tower cranes where they got some great photos showing the progress made on this 188-bedroom hotel.
Benefits of Self-Erecting Tower Cranes
2 self erecting cranes are in use for this build, a Potain IGO 50 and a Potain HDT80. Self-erecting tower cranes are extremely versatile, flexible and offer a host of advantages on all construction sites and especially those with limited space.
Pedestrian-operated cranes offer enhanced efficiency as they can usually reach all site areas. The self-erector has a small footprint and can operate in restricted spaces on construction sites while still offering both excellent reach and capacity. If necessary, multiple self-erecting cranes can operate within a small area on a busy site.
Rapid deployment and dismantling times make these cranes an efficient lifting option. A self-erecting tower crane could be set up and ready to start work within 1 to 2 days, depending on the lifting capacity required. Many self-erecting tower cranes can be ready on the same day. In addition, moving the crane to another position on the site could be achieved within the same timeframe, meaning less downtime on time-critical projects.
Powered by Electricity
Self-erecting tower cranes are powered by on-site electricity or a generator. On-site electricity results in low noise levels and reduced emissions. Zero tailpipe emissions from the cranes on construction sites will help support the industry’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions in construction.
